Expect only the best

"Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.  Look at the sunny side of everything & make your optimism come true.  Think only of the best, work only for the best & expect only the best.  Forget the mistakes of the past & press on to the greater achievements of the future. Give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.  Live in the faith that the whole world is on your side as long as your are true to the best that is in you."

- Christian D. Larson
I posted this thinking that I'd highlight my "favorite" part: "think only the best, work only for the best & expect only the best" but as I typed it out I realized that the whole thing is my favorite part.

Ibuprofen doesn't fix sad

"trying to use willpower to overcome the apathetic sort of sadness that accompanies depression is like a person with no arms trying to punch themselves until their hands grow back.  A fundamental component of the plan is missing and it isn't going to work "

The Cat Haz Swagger

Two years ago, Old Spice came out with a GENIUS ad campaign with Isaiah Mustafa is the new Old Spice guy.  Isaiah Mustafa is a whole lot of smooth brown beautiful man topped with a voice that makes ice cream seem hum-drum, coupled with the hilarous add and they had a winner.

Then...THEN (are you sensing the awesomeness that's about to unfold?) Grover from Sesame Street did a spoof on the add.  Someone too what was already outstanding and made it outstanding again by replacing the half-naked beautiful man with a Muppet.  If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check here.

Now, NOW...it's back!

Okay - so this picture is WAY less impressive than it was in person so when I say this...you probably won't be very impressed.  In person though, the fact that these two glasses hold the exact same amount of liquid.  WITCHCRAFTERY!

I want stupid people to have healthcare...

"I’m a liberal, so I probably dream bigger than you.  For instance, I want everybody to have healthcare.  I want lazy people to have healthcare.  I want stupid people to have healthcare.  I want drug addicts to have healthcare.  I want bums who refuse to work even when given the opportunity to have healthcare.  I’m willing to pay for that with my taxes, because I want to live in a society where it doesn’t matter how much of a loser you are, if you need medical care you can get it.  And not just by crowding up an emergency room that should be dedicated exclusively to helping people in emergencies."

It was a good night for wine

October 22, 2011
Who better to try out a new wine bar with?  Tannins be damned!

And after a lot of digging through my iPhone and camara that I didn't take a picture on Frida night.  :-(  Not even a month in and I've missed a day...so in lieu of a Friday picture, I'll just go with another Saturday picture.

Grammar is offended by you -- really and truly offended

On Thursday morning I got to work with the hopes that the tail end of my week would be better than the front end.  I made my coffee and opened up my email to find a forward from a coworker about a mama tiger raising piglets as if they were cubs.  It was cute but then, and at the very bottom of the email was this signature:

October 20, 2011

I accept that some people dislike President Obama with the same vigor that I used to reserve for disliking President Bush. I don't get it but I accept it, at work though?  Maybe just a titch inappropriate.

More important than expressing a vitriolic political opinion at work, "freedom," "guns," and "change" are not proper nouns,  You can dislike President Obama all day long but you can't capitalize shit willy-nilly, it's just not how it works!

On the behalf of grammar and punctuation, I am truly offended.

Simple and delicious

The simplest things are so often the best: fresh heirloom tomato, mozzarella and pesto paninis, a couple of beers and chocolate cookies for dessert.

Date Night

October 18, 2011
I had a hot date on Tuesday.  We hung out, ate some dinner, went for a walk and read several books - a pretty impressive date night all in all if I do say so myself.

It all started with the mail

This past week at work was Crappy with a capital "C" and it all started with Monday afternoon's mail.
October 17, 2011
One ought not to lose ones marbles over some mail but this week was apparenlty my week for not losing but throwing my marbles around our office. I'm not particularly proud of it but there you have it.

Blogger Cat

October 16, 2011
Blogger Cat, Blogger Cat, blogs whatever a Blogger Cat blogs.

Joe Lewis was around too - but he was busy practicing his vocal performance piece...in my ear and couldn't be disturbed with pictures.

Pink Pumpkin Painting Par-Tay

October 15, 2011
More kudos to the Breast Cancer Awareness PR team, on Saturday morning I met up with some of the oldest members of my Baby Mafia and their corresponding Bosses (Mafiosos?) to participate in the Pink Pumpking Painting Party. It's nice to live vicariously for a few hours, it make returning my sensory deprivation tank seem...like a relief.  At least for a little while.

Putting the Happy in Happy Hour

October 14, 2011
After what felt like an interminable week at work...we put the "happy" back in Happy Hour.  Cal stuck with the house white but the rest of us partied hardy until the early evening.

Everyone likes a good happy dance

Much like naming things, I come by my love of happy dances honestly, which is to say genetically.  With a Mama who Snoopy's in the kitchen at dinner time, can it come as a shock that the mood for a little "this is awesome" boogie strikes me from time to time?

So when I received a package from Target the other day and inside was a diagram for their version of the happy dance?  Well suffice to say I gave it a shot and while I still prefer my personal happy dance,I appreciate the addition to my repertoire.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 12, 2011
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I have to say, whoever engineered this campaign deserves a raise, a big one. Half of the NFL has pinked itself out, proving that even within this bastion of testosterone, these athletes love and support their mothers, aunts, grandma's, sisters, wives and friends and unite in the face of a terrible disease.  Real men do wear pink...and apparently so do motorcycle cops. :)

Quote of the Day: oh those Washington's edition

"I am still determined to be cheerful and to be happy in whatever situation I may be, for I have also learnt from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions and not upon our circumstances."
~ Martha Washington
