Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 12, 2011
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I have to say, whoever engineered this campaign deserves a raise, a big one. Half of the NFL has pinked itself out, proving that even within this bastion of testosterone, these athletes love and support their mothers, aunts, grandma's, sisters, wives and friends and unite in the face of a terrible disease.  Real men do wear pink...and apparently so do motorcycle cops. :)

Quote of the Day: oh those Washington's edition

"I am still determined to be cheerful and to be happy in whatever situation I may be, for I have also learnt from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions and not upon our circumstances."
~ Martha Washington

Stereotyping Saves Time

October 11, 2011

This really wasn't the sterotype that I had hoped to embody...

The sun came out just as it got quiet...

It rained all weekend while my Mom was here.  While I wish the weather could have been nicer for her visit, I was so grateful to have people here over the gloomy weekend.

Low and behold, barely an hour after my Mom left for the airport the sun came out...sparkling through the splarkly clean windows.

Piss and Moan Meeting: October 2011

Piss and Moan met this weekend in the town of its founding. The two founding members traveled from Minneapolis and Tampa to induct (after a rigorous interview process of course) the two new junior members of the Club.  A full complement of Piss and Moaners hoisted beers, sipped wine and had a fabulous time in general.

Rule number one of membership in Piss and Moan: loyalty and friendship among members is numero uno.  And friends share, they share anything that needs sharing...including napkins.

Hey, we all need role models!

Ladies Night Out

October 8, 2011

It's no Wild Washer Women and it's not an official Piss and Moan gathering - but the Kukulka women had a rather nice evening out on the town last weekend. :-)

Occasionally being a grownup IS more fun

This NEVER would have happened when we were kids - specifically the fact that my mom is smiling at the double bird.

Reblog this:

I am insanely lucky in that I don't need any of the following resources.

Maybe you do though?  And if you don't , maybe you know someone who does?  Or maybe some day down the road when you'll think "oh - I wish I knew where to look for help," and you'll remember that I once posed a blog with all sorts of resources on it and come back to use it.

Just sending this out into my blogosphere of 10 strong and hope that it'll get passed along from person to person and maybe help someone.  Re-blog, re-post and pass along:

Project 365: Entries 3 and 4

Wednesday, October 5, 2011
I have this great friend and one of the great things about her is that she knows that sometimes talking on the phone isn't enough, that sometimes the presence of another human being is, well, the greatest gift that you can give.  On Thursday night I had everything I needed if not everything that I wanted: a glass of wine, a journal, and a good friend helping me to sort through the jumble of things in my head.

My friend Laura and her youngest son Greyson -- the first member of my Baby Mafia.  Baby Entourage?  Which one sounds less creepsie?

Project 365: Entries 1 and 2

While perusing my friend Kate's blog the other day (which you can find here) she mentioned that she would be participating in something called Project 365.  Essentially, the challenge is to take one picture each and every day for a whole year, so that at the end of the year you can look and back and literally see where you started, the things that have changed to get you to where you are now.

So, starting Monday (I was delayed in posting this but it's not like I could skip going to happy hour last or something) I'm taking a picture a day and posting it here.  While other people who have done this can only rave about how amazing it is in the long run to look back and see the last year of your life, I'm pretty sure that I'll simply be revealing how very lame I and my life can be.  Who know though, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Operation Lab Clean-out has been completed.  Sometimes you just don't feel like sitting at a desk and my job can be AMAZING on days like that because there's almost always some non-desk work project that needs to be done.  The ridiculous amount of stuff you see before you is about one years worth of un-sorted through laboratory supplies. Bye bye old study supplies, hellooooooo clean lab! (Everyone loves a clean lab!)

I call this...Murry in Trash Bag.  This pretty much sums up the past few days with Murry: incredibly needy and constantly somewhere he isn't supposed to be yet so stinkin' cute all you can do is take a picture.

Lips are Lips

In further adventures in medical terminology for the half-brained non-nurse temp workers among us, we have discovered that lips are lips. Regardless of gender, we all have at least one set.

In the oh so eloquent words of Jack Thompson* - half-brained, non-nurse member of the Front Office Staff  "nobody ever better threaten to lay one on my labials."

Flying Penguins!

Gratuitous Pictures of My Cats

While posting things such as what I'm about to post will probably forever brand me as a creepy cat lady, I don't give a damn.  Most days these cats are the first things I talk to when I wake up and the last things that I talk to before I go to bed.  They snuggle with me when I can't sleep at night and occasionally provide a giggle or two with their antics.

This morning I got up, made my bed and took a shower.  I walked out of the bathroom to find this:

As I watched, the saga of Murry vs. the Blankies unfolded. Suspecting that he'd been caught mid-battle with an inanimate object, he attempted to slink off, possibly leaving Joe Lewis to accept the blame for his mess:

Then thought better of it and simply snuggled down as if to take a nap:

but not until after writhing around in the joy and ecstasy of snuggly blankies and a soft pillow.

Song of the Day: Adele - Someone Like You

I have fallen truly head over heels in love with Adele.  I know, me and about 20 million other people.  Historically, I'm not an educated judge of music but I think her voice is stunning and every time I hear an interview with her I find myself so impressed and falling in love with her just a little bit more.

"sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead

nothing compares no worries
or cares
regrets and mistake they're
memories made
who would have know how
bittersweet this would taste"

Quote of the Day: I am a Unicorn

“I think that you are the biggest unicorn. When a pony does a good deed, he gets a horn and he becomes a unicorn and then he poops out cotton candy until he forgets he’s magical and then his horn falls off. And black unicorns, they become zebras.  I'm also a unicorn. Maybe a bi-corn. Either way, I'm starting to believe in my own magic."

- Brittney "Glee: I am a Unicorn"
